How to Wear Colour When You Usually Live in Black

I'll let you in on a secret.

I don't think wearing colour means you suddenly have to become the woman who wears a neon pink suit on a Tuesday morning.

Sometimes colour is just...

...a pair of earrings.

If your wardrobe is mostly black, navy, denim or white, you're actually in the perfect position to wear colourful jewellery.

You don't need to match everything.

One of the biggest myths is that your earrings have to match your outfit perfectly.

They don't.

Sometimes they look even better when they don't.

A white shirt and bright cobalt earrings.

A black dress with hot pink.

Denim and orange.

The colour becomes the interesting bit.

Start smaller than you think.

Whenever someone tells me they're “not a colourful person”, I usually discover they actually mean...

“I don't know where to start.”

You don't have to repaint your wardrobe overnight.

Add one colourful pair of earrings.

Wear them with the clothes you already own.

See how you feel.

Colour changes how you feel.

This might sound dramatic...

...but I genuinely think colour changes your mood.

When I'm painting a new sheet of paper, I'm constantly mixing colours until they make me smile.

That's the test.

Because if they make me happy sitting on my desk, hopefully they'll make someone else smile when they wear them.

Life can be serious enough.

Your earrings don't have to be.
